Hi everyone! How is your summer so far? What adventures have you gone on? What adventures do you have planned?
I wanted to make something to commemorate our first season of Museum Musings Podcast. While I’m not very good at all this yet, but I put together a simple little video highlight. Check it out on our YouTube page!
On to the fun stuff! I’ve done some audiobooks so far, but maybe not as many as I would have liked. What books you ask? I started off with The 5 Love Languages and was pleasantly surprised to hear the author is an anthropologist! It seemed to me there was a general anthropology void for a while, but we’re everywhere now! It’s fantastic and I love it. I did listen to the Singles edition, and that also was an interesting read.
As I like to try different genres and authors, I attacked my TBR pile of books in my personal library, and I was pleasantly surprised by Recipe for Persuasion by Sonali Dev. Sonali Dev is an author I stumbled upon a few years back with her take on Jane Austen classic Pride and Prejudice – but with a modern Bollywood twist! I fell in love with her writing and immediately purchased Recipe for Persuasion, and she did not disappoint! It’s a series of 4, and I’m sure the others will be just as good.

Olivia here was gracious enough to show you the Sonali Dev books her mama enjoyed.
Another wonderful and touching book is The Stationary Shop by Marjan Kamali. Talk about heart-wrenching! I won’t say more but give it a go if you are feeling like a good love realistic love story and are not afraid to delve deep into your emotions.
I have a fascination with Old Hollywood, and so awhile back I had picked up The Only Woman in the Room by Marie Benedict, which is a fictional account of the life of actress Hedy LaMarr. The story of Hedy LaMarr is literally the stuff of movies – she was an actress in Austria, who escaped Hitler to LA, and made it in the movies here on her own. Soooo little is talked about her brilliant scientific mind, which is such a shame, because she invented some pretty important stuff that even the Navy put to use (they stole it) and that we use every day! See? I told you she’s fabulous. There’s a documentary called Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story, and it does a much better job than the book of honoring this multifaceted woman. But do borrow the book from your local library if you want to see if it’s your style or not. I saw the movie first and so my expectations were quite high.
Are there any books you have read this summer that you would recommend? Send me a message by clicking here!
