Native American bones unearthed by Hurricane Nicole

Our lovely state of Florida experienced Hurricane Nicole early this November, and as can be expected, some interesting finds can be found with all that lovely earth that has been disturbed and displaced. In Hutchingson Island, which is a barrier island on the east coast of Florida, if you happened to be strolling along the beach and saw some commotion, it’s all okay! Hurricane Nicole just uncovered some Native American bones, and it’s not the first time this has happened. The fragments of bones are being attributed to the Ais tribe, which was a group of hunter-gatherers that lived in small villages of huts, and numbered in the thousands prior to European contact. The public beach is a known burial site. Sidenote: Hutchinson Island also is home to the National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum, but also is a great place to see some sea turtles.

Oldest Sentence Written Has Been Decrypted

In other breaking news, the oldest sentence ever written with an alphabet has been decoded! And what, pray tell, does this sentence say? Well, it tells us about…. HEAD LICE! The sentence was written on an ivory comb in the Canaanite language. The Canaanites date back to about 3500 -1150 BCE. The sentence reads, “May this tusk root out the lice of the head and the beard.” The comb was originally found in the archaeological site of Lachish in Jerusalem in 2016, but the sentence was just noticed in 2021 – 5 years later!! For more on the findings, check out the research in the Jerusalem Journal of Archaeology.

Miami Businessman Investigated for Art

A Miami businessman burned a drawing he claims was from the diary of Frida Khalo during the 2022 summer in a private event. The work in question, called Fantasmones Siniesteros, was apparently destroyed and then reappeared digitally as 10,000 NFTs to help support different organizations, and for the artwork to live on in the Metaverse. It is unclear if the drawing really was by Frida Kahlo, but the Miami gentleman is being investigated by the Mexican government as destruction of artistic Mexican monuments is considered a criminal offense.
